As if things weren't topsy-turvy enough in this crazy world of ours, this week EW, drunk with power (because she didn't have any gin in the house) demanded to moderate the quiz solo! "You've lorded your senior mod status over me for the last time! See what it feels like to be quizlings, you wretches!" she shrieked at AL&CV!

Or maybe AL&CV said "lol we don't know half the answers to this quiz, we could practically play along" and EW said "lol do it" and only later realized that she'd volunteered herself for extra work.

Who can say?

1. The "canary girls" of World War I got their nickname from handling what dangerous yellow solid?

"Marshmallow Peeps" - Laura G, [personal profile] i_calql8
"Cheeto dust" - [personal profile] digitaldiscipline

(Y'all are giving me the munchies! - EW)

"Caked, dried urine" - [personal profile] seekingferret

(Never mind, that took care of it. - EW)

"Frozen Sunny Delight. (Remember when it turned that girl yellow and everyone stopped buying it? Or was that just a UK thing?)" - [personal profile] crystalcazzie

(It definitely wasn't a Minnesota, USA thing ... - EW)

"Blocks of solidified pollen. Chunks of it were shot into WWI trenches to weaken the enemies with wicked bad sneezing, runny eyes, and sinus headaches." - Kirsten the Chump

"Let's see if I can do this cold: Trinitrotoluide. Nope, I can't." - [personal profile] cmattg

"Trinitrotoluene, which I only know is the real name of TNT thanks to the Richie Rich movie." - [personal profile] b_hulsmans

Correct answer: TNT

"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiuGncbE5dY" - Deza

2. The release of which Christopher Nolan spy film was delayed three times due to COVID-19?

"Delayed three times by the PLANDEMIC? Held up three times by the DEEP STATE? Omigod, is Christopher Nolan actually Q? **adjusts tinfoil hat**" - [personal profile] angledge

"This makes it sounds like COVID-19 is just a worldwide conspiracy to derail Christopher Nolan's career." - [personal profile] crystalcazzie

(I bet you can borrow [personal profile] angledge's tinfoil hat if you need to. - EW)

"2020 is all about containment. Whoever’s releasing anything needs to get their mask on right!" - [personal profile] bending_sickle

"Sorry, I don't bother keeping up with movies if I'm not in them. You can see me in Freaky due out November 13, though! (I'm in the trailer right around the 23 second mark; don't blink!)" - Deza

(+1 for extremely subtle self-promotion, very smooth. - EW)

"Batman 4: Batman makes Pasta" - [personal profile] seekingferret

"You'd think a movie about time travel could have seen this coming." - [personal profile] b_hulsmans

"Tenet, because nobody would want to watch a movie titled 'Precept.'" - [personal profile] germankitty

Correct answer: Tenet.

"She worked hard farming all that dirt!" - Deza

"Poor Pattern Placement. We have wavy horizontal lines in the wood, vertical lines in the furrowed brow, and some weird starry bullshit in the shirt. A design nightmare!" - [personal profile] chaosvizier

Correct answer: "Tenant Farmer's Wife"

"As if Ellie Mae likely wasn't depressed enough by life and circumstances, she also had to be defined for posterity by her husband's job?!? No wonder she 'looked sternly'!" - [personal profile] germankitty

4. Which actor known for playing Doctor Who is also married to the daughter of an actor who played Doctor Who?

"This question says 'who' so much, now I want a damn Tootsie Roll Pop" - [personal profile] fizrep

"Heard on their wedding night: 'Oooh, it is bigger on the inside!'" - [personal profile] i_calql8

"Thanks to the Doctor's time-travelling shenanigans, she could be his daughter, 43 times removed! This probably would happen more often if Captain James T. Kirk had been a Gallifreyan." - [personal profile] chaosvizier

"So wait, he went back in time to marry his daughter? I always knew the Doctor was up to no good! I bet he's not even a real doctor, just a fraud like Dr. Oz." - [personal profile] seekingferret

"Barty Crouch Jr. Delphi convinced him that 'Dr Who' was just another, shorter way of saying 'He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.'" - [personal profile] germankitty

"David Tenth, who played the Tennant Doctor! Wait..." - [personal profile] cmattg

"David Ten-inch, if Billie Piper is to be believed." - [personal profile] crystalcazzie

"Engulf & Devour" - [personal profile] i_calql8

(+1, Silent Movie. - EW)

"All Your Base Ltd." - [personal profile] bending_sickle

"It makes me feel GOD DAMN ANCIENT that the early internet taunt QQ is now a corporate logo. >=( Get off my pixels you dang kids!" - [personal profile] fizrep

Correct answer: Tencent

6. What do you think needs to be blown up?

"Oh. Blown UP. Well, that's a different answer altogether..." - Deza

(If fucking ONLY. However, some good things have happened recently, I hear ... - EW)

Correct answer: "I'm ready to blow up my career, once again - I accepted a new job today!" - [personal profile] angledge

You all showed great talent this week while EW was a tyrant! Although don't taunt her too much because she DID resist the urge to ask a question about pitching a tent. Anyway, come back tomorrow for six new questions and two returning, more-appreciated-than-ever mods!

Rock on,

EW&AL&CV

DWDQEU weekly stats: 12/48. Holding steady there, peeps; well done!

(Personal stats: A draw with [personal profile] i_calql8. In a week where it took me until the crack of dawn on Sunday morning to play because not one even vaguely amusing, never mind funneh thing came to mind sooner, I'm gonna count that as a win! Also, WB, old friend! *hides cattle prod until the next time it's needed*)

(Not that I disagree with your opinion about EW, but still ...)

Oh, and congrats on the new job!

So...did I miss anything?

Foursies, huh? Nice to know I still have a few moves left, quizwise.

So, in the span of a few months:
1) I turned the big six-fucking-oh a week and a half ago.
2) I will be getting my final fitting for dentures next week, after four months of oral surgery and waiting weeks for moldings (thanks, pandemic!).
3) I learned that Son will be marrying into an Insta-Family™ in 2021, thus making me...the G-word. I still cannot process it.

So you can understand why the Funneh Tank has been empty the last few months.

"Doctor McSexy" - Kirsten the Chump
(+.5, Supernatural)
FWIW, Supernatural fans know that 'Dr. Sexy' is their parody of 'Gray's Anatomy'. Other potential +1s you can use from Supernatural are, among others, Busty Asian Beauties, Biggerson's, and Casa Erotica.

"Batman 4: Batman makes Pasta" - [personal profile] seekingferret
Too bad Ethel Merman is no longer with us, or you could have a Lola Lasagna cameo. She'd be swell. She'd be great.

Being the G-word isn't so bad once you give it some time to sink in. My daughter keeps sending me reports on how her son is misbehaving in school. Today he hung up on the Zoom call and locked himself in a dog crate. - Deza

Woot, an awesome foursome of quotage! Yay!

The David Ten-Inch thing is completely true, by the way. Or at least the fact that Billie Piper calls him that is; I can't make any claims as to the veracity of the name itself.

Yeah, that whole "Quiz answers are due by Friday" is a complete fiction & we all should know it by now. Turn them in whenever. If we haven't written the Answers yet (& RARELY do we get around to it before Sunday evening), we will look at your work.

My boyfriend (who I just moved in with a few weeks ago) has one granddaughter already & his daughter-in-law is expecting a son this month. I... I don't process it. I don't think about it at all tbh...
