Welcome September, and all the seasonal glory that comes with it! What glory, you ask? Well... you know, Septemberish glory. Cooler than August, warmer than October, with an equinox thrown in for good measure... good stuff. So what better way to herald the Month of Sevens than to play this week's quizly offering?

How about an icon contest?

Yes, I don't have any icons uploaded here for the [community profile] dwdq. It's still just starting out. Also, I'm not really an expert in icon-making, photo-shopping, graphic-designing, or all that new-fangled artsy stuff. I'm so old, I think ASCII art is the shiznit. So, if any of you wonderful [community profile] dwdq players can come up with some icons for me to use here, I will!

Icon "topics" would be for Quizzes, Answers, and Reminders. But really, they don't need to stick to those topics at all. As long as they mention the [community profile] dwdq, they're good. After, all, if we can get away with this...

...then really, the sky's the limit.

So Go. Play. Take Quiz. And, if you can, Make Icons.

Welcome all to Dreamwidth's Daily Quiz, where we are taking LiveJournal's Daily Quiz and cloning it like we're in a bad SyFy Original Movie. Hahaha, I'm just being silly. "Bad" is redundant.

The rules of the quiz are up on the community information page, but here's a very quick summary of what's going to happen.

1) A new Quiz will appear every Tuesday. It will contain six questions, give or take some.

2) Contestants (that would be everyone reading this) have until midnight on Friday to answer the questions.

3) Answers, complete with commentary, will appear Monday.

4) Drink. Repeat.

The most important concept that we should establish here deals with step two, Answering. Sure, the questions have correct answers. Sure, you might not know the correct answers. Therefore, you have the right, and in fact are encouraged, to make something up. Even if you know the right answer, go on and make something up. In this way, when it comes to step three, we will scour your submissions for what we feel are the best (not necessarily correct) answers.

Some good illustrations of this comes from the good ole days of the original Daily Quiz ...

Question:

1. What was the name of Bo and Luke Duke's car?

Correct Answer: The General Lee

Better Than Correct Answer: "General Tso was the car driven by Bo and Ruke, though." - A Very Funny Man

This is the kind of answer that causes office-based Quiz takers to disturb their co-workers with the sound of maniacal, smothered laughter. And isn't that what life is all about?

----

Every so often though, as happens in trivia, someone might make a mistake.

Question:

2. What is the capital of New York?

Correct Answer: Albany

Incorrect Answer: "New York City." - Someone Who Made A Mistake

That's fine, this Quiz respondent didn't know the right answer, but they took a stab at answering anyway. We applaud this. However, we would probably be forced to make a joke at their expense. Understand that this is really a form of tough love, like that time [personal profile] chaosvizier grabbed a handful of change from some beggar because he needed bus fare. I know, in the end, that the beggar understood and forgave him.

----

Some grand masters of trivia might even bring it back to us.

Question:

3. What large snake, located in the southern United States, is also called the gopher snake?

Correct Answer: Indigo Snake

Damn Fine Answer: "What we have here ... is a magnificent specimen of pure Alabama black snake." - Some Naughty Person

This chap didn't respond with the correct answer, but instead hit the quiz back with a quote from a movie, Full Metal Jacket. We LOVE quotes. He gets bonus points.

----

And that's the name of the game. The more of you that answer, the funnier this becomes. So go on, tell all your friends to play. It'll make this even better.

Bring it on!

And welcome one and all to [community profile] dwdq! We'll probably start up soon, once I figure out all these newfangled buttons and settings and things. I'm just a simple caveman here. Git off mah lawn, you young whippersnappers!

If you never played [livejournal.com profile] ljdq before, then the First Commandment is simple: "Smart is easy; funny is hard." Trivia tests are no longer really challenging, since a few seconds with Google and its many offshoots will answer pretty much any question that comes down the pike. What we want to see is how funny you can make your answers.

For some examples from the past, check out this quiz. Or perhaps this larger-than-average quiz. Or even this recent quiz.

Tune in to this space for more goods! Also, gin and pudding.
