[personal profile] angledge posting in [community profile] dwdq

So LAST week's quiz was supposed to include a Rocky & Bullwinkle question, tying into the "squirrel" theme. But someone forgot to include it. So it was easy to decide the theme for this week...

1. Sinister Pottsylvanian agents Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale were on a neverending assignment to kill which two imperialist characters?

"Wait, a squirrel theme two weeks in a row?" - [personal profile] seekingferret

(Nah, this is just the segue. -AL)

"When we look at how many cartoons from 40+ years ago were about characters having a long-standing pointless YEARNING to kill each other, 2020 makes sense." - Rhi

“Yo Adrian?” - Basketball Jones

"Those dang Winchester brothers" - [personal profile] kittycatness

"00Tommy the British Secret Agent Cat and his sidekick, Jerry the German Mouse." - [personal profile] germankitty

"Dastardly and Muttley" - [personal profile] crystalcazzie

"Pottsylvania wanted to weaponize the secret of pulling dangerous wild animals out of hats." - [personal profile] shirenomad

Correct Answer: Moose and Squirrel. (Obviously Rocky & Bullwinkle is correct too.)

2. Which Dallas Cowboys fullback won three Super Bowl championships and is most responsible for Emmitt Smith gaining the NFL's all-time rushing title?

"What the hell is a rushing title? Is that were you fast-forward through the opening credits?" - [personal profile] crystalcazzie

"Fullback sounds dirty, but also like a way to have a potato. Now I want potatoes. Thanks!" - [personal profile] kittycatness

(Carbs and things that sound dirty: two DWDQ favorites. -AL)

(We are actually surprised we didn't get more Debbie references. -AL&CV&EW)

Correct Answer: Darryl "Moose" Johnston.

3. Fun with cooking!

Place 5 1/4 oz. bittersweet chocolate in a double boiler at a low simmer. Stir chocolate until melted. Turn off the heat and let stand. Beat 14 oz. heavy cream over ice until it forms soft peaks. Set aside and hold at room temperature. With a mixer, whip 3 large egg whites to soft peaks. Gradually add 1 oz. sugar and continue whipping until firm. Remove the chocolate from double boiler and using a whisk, fold in the egg whites all at once. When the whites are almost completely incorporated, fold in the whipped cream. Cover and refrigerate for approximately 1 hour or until set. Serve in goblets topped with more whipped cream and shaved chocolate, if desired.

What have you made?

"A mess" - [personal profile] crystalcazzie & Rhi & all other honest people

"You guys stole my recipe!" - Bobby Flay

(We totally did. -AL&CV&EW)

(Hey CV, are you thinking what I'm thinking? -EW)

We hope you have enjoyed this entirely accidental extension of last week's "squirrel" theme. Please join us on Tuesday when we hopefully can think of something more novel. Ooooh, novels! No, too broad. Ooooh, broads! No, too overdone by us in the past.

We'll think of something.

Rock on!

When I read the answers at first I was, what, no quotes? IMPOSSIBLE.
Then I thought, mmm, weird, the questions don't seem familiar.

Ah yes; It would seem that this quiz is prejudiced, they only quote people who submit their answers! DISCRIMINATION!

Well, clearly my strategy for this week was about as effective as getting into a land war in Asia.

Heh. Does my +1 for starting a War against Christmas equalize the -1 from a couple of weeks ago when I pissed off two religions at once?

Also, just by the way, [personal profile] shirenomad -- I'll be married thirty-nine years a month from today. So congrats, amateur! :-)

Thirty-three in September:) And four months later it will be Thirty Three and a Third, missing George Harrison's birthday by almost exactly a month.

Apart from the usual (love, attraction, yadayada), you mean?

Have a similar sense of humor. Sharing at least some interests (corollary: giving each other the freedom to sometimes do your own thing if you don't). Related: Indulgence (ie, do stuff together even if it's not exactly your cup o' tea). Tolerance. Being able to argue without devolving into personal attacks. Loyalty. Trust.

Most importantly, IMO -- don't just give up at the first (second, third ...) roadblock. You promised to love and honor each other; nobody promised you easy. And sometimes, marriage ... isn't. Well, tough. Is he/she/it worth working for? Then do!

(Personally, I think it may also have helped us that I'm a good cook. :P Crappy housekeeper, though -- see "tolerance" and "humor"!)

*high-fives* Go you!

(Although tbh, I could add another ten years to our total; we got married 10 years to the day after we first met! First girl/boyfriend and all that, yanno ...)

3 quotes!! I wasn't expecting that - didn't think my sense of humour had quite kicked in, the morning I posted. So apparently, I'm funnier when only half-awake...

Huh. I've been saying and hearing "X as big as the Ritz" for basically all my life and never knew it was from a Fitzgerald story. (I think I thought it was from a movie?) My high-school English teacher was obsessed with Fitzgerald; you'd think this would have come up.

(The hand is fine, BTW. I'm getting the stitches out next week.)
