This week's quiz idea came about when EW arrived at work one Monday and found, on her computer, notes for a "fuller" theme ... which she did not remember making. Quiz elves? Glitch in the matrix? Or just a really, really bad memory? The world may never know ...

1. The structure of carbon molecules called "buckyballs" are named for what designer and inventor?

"If I'd learned about something called Buckyballs in high school chemistry, I would have paid more attention... I obviously didn't" - [personal profile] waitingman

(Add another topic to the list of "Question Topics Quizlings Hate". -AL)

"James Buchanan 'Bucky' Barnes." - Laura G., [personal profile] digitaldiscipline, [personal profile] crystalcazzie

"'Bucky Balls'- the porn edition of 'Captain America Winter Soldier,' featuring much Steve Rogering." - [personal profile] captainsblog

"Buckminster 'Glass Half' Fuller" - Stephanie la Francofille

(Who looks at a brand-new baby & says, "Let's name him Buckminster"? -EW)
(Should've named him Glass Half instead. -CV)

Correct answer: R. Buckminster Fuller.

"Oh man, he is so AWESOME." - [identity profile] ntlespino.livejournal.com

2. What Netflix original sitcom included cameos by John Stamos, Dave Coulier, Bob Saget, and New Kids on the Block?

"Having Netflix and New Kids on the Block in one question is really throwing me. Those two things belong in two very distinct and separate periods of my lifetime." - [personal profile] crystalcazzie

"Part #2 of the Crowded Edifices franchise -- Full Cabin (featuring The Osmonds), Fuller House and Overflowing Mansion (the upcoming One Direction reunion vehicle)." - [personal profile] germankitty

(-1 for suggesting that last one. -CV)

"'I Wish Netflix Would Cancel This Shit Instead Of Altered Carbon'... oh wait... they have!!" - [personal profile] waitingman

(Season 1 of Altered Carbon was great, Season 2 was unwatchable. -AL)

"Season 2 of The Baby-Sitters Club is going to stray from the books, it sounds like." - Laura G.

"Full House 2: New Kids in the House" - [personal profile] bending_sickle

"Fuller House??" - Stephanie la Francofille

(Guessing: sometimes it works! - EW)

Correct answer: Fuller House.

3. Fun with lyrics! Name the title and artist of the 1966 hit song that complains about "breakin' rocks in the hot sun" after "robbin' people with a six-gun."

Refusing to acknowledge any version but the Clash's: 2 of you

(Meanwhile, a different 2 of you answered "'Fulsom Prison Blues' by Johnny Cash" and I can't tell if you're joking or just wrong. -EW)

"Rocks and robbin', tweet, tweedle-lee-dee" - [personal profile] seekingferret

"Six gun? The singer is an octopus?" - [identity profile] ntlespino.livejournal.com

"'Selling out and shutting down Napster' by Green Day" - Laura G

Correct answer: "I Fought the Law" by the Bobby Fuller Four.

"You can tell it was sung by white guys, they fought the law and lived to tell the tale." - [personal profile] b_hulsmans

4. What clay substance is used to clean dirt off wool and to decontaminate skin from chemical warfare agents?

"Well... that escalated quickly." - [personal profile] crystalcazzie

"Chemical warfare ---> Vietnam. Clay ---> Cassius Clay ---> Muhammad Ali. Muhammad Ali refused to fight in Vietnam. Therefore the answer is Muhammad Ali." - Laura G

(You're not the only quizling to answer that, actually, but you get a +1 for showing your work. -CV)

"Well, Dawn detergent work on oily birds, so I'll go with Napalmolive. (You know you're soaking in it!)" - [personal profile] captainsblog

"Not that we're going to have a lot of occasion to clean chemical weapons off our shit here in the WOW HEY LOOK AT THE TIME NOPE NO POLITICS IN THE QUIZ" - [personal profile] digitaldiscipline

"Mrs Skower's All-Purpose Magical Mess Remover -- No Pain, No Stain!" - [personal profile] germankitty

(+1, Harry Potter. -EW)

"Funny, when I rub clay over myself, I don’t get any cleaner. Must be rolling in the dirt the wrong way." - [personal profile] bending_sickle

(Maybe instead of dirt, you need to roll, roll, roll in ze hay! -EW)
(You're a mod now; you're not going to get a +1 for referencing Young Frankenstein. -AL)
(Please, I beg you! For safety's sake, don't humiliate her! -CV)
(You neither! -AL)

Correct answer: Fuller's earth.

5. What film about a door-to-door salesman suspected of murder was marketed with the tagline, "When Red gives a demonstration, the laughs rock the nation!"?

"The Shawshank Redemption" - 2
"Death of a Salesman" - 3

"I refuse to believer there is a movie question I can't answer! Strange that this quiz only has 5 questions this week." - [personal profile] b_hulsmans

"Suitcase Full of Lies" - Stephanie La Francofille

"I read that as a door-to-door murder salesman. 'Good evening, madam, I was wondering if I could interest you in some murder today? No, very well, thank you for your time.'" - [personal profile] crystalcazzie

"was there seriously a movie about the Fuller Brush Man?" - [personal profile] digitaldiscipline

(Apparently, yes. -AL)

Correct answer: The Fuller Brush Man.

6. What's something you can't help but overeat?

"Fritos. They're Amanda crack." - Ajmcoqui

"I never think I'll get through a cinema bucket of popcorn, but I always do... Are you going to finish yours?" - [personal profile] waitingman

"Potato chips. I think it’s that simian hindbrain need to crush the crunchy things and hear their lamentations." - [personal profile] bending_sickle

"right now, it's Spudsy brand faux cheetos." - Stephanie La Francofille

"I'm really into pickles right now, but not like in a hipster way" - [personal profile] seekingferret

"Watermelon; I'll eat a whole melon in one go if people don't stop me" - [personal profile] b_hulsmans

And that's that! Well done, all! Come back tomorrow -- we hope you saved room for more questions!

Rock On!

EW&AL&CV.

DWDQEU weekly stats: 12/36 (including my herdquote on #5) Would've been 13 if my slashy answer on #1 had made the cut ... but I admit that [personal profile] captainsblog's version was funnier

Sorry for no success on the [personal profile] i_calql8 front; according to his better half, he's too busy gnashing his teeth letting his dentist play in his mouth repeatedly and is thus apparently incapable of The Funneh. I'll keep trying, though!

Ouch. I had braces as an adult; cue in 18 months of dental purgatory (only to have my upper incisors pulled anyway 5 years later to put bridgework in -- a total waste of time and money!)

He has my full sympathy, and hopefully his treatment turns out better than mine!

This "Fulsom Prison Blues" entrant was just completely wrong, because that at least twigged my theme recognition, as I had no idea who performed the actual answer.

I feel called out by the reminder post. No, this time, I was on vacation all week and the lack of answers was intended. Or at least not the result of missing a single click.

I'm with [personal profile] waitingman on the cinema popcorn. The portion looks huge and I tell myself there's no way I'll eat that much, and then I scoff the lot. But then, popcorn is one of the best parts of going to the cinema and I'll never understand people who complain that it costs too much and bring their own snacks. Cinema popcorn is a non-negotiable part of the whole experience and I refuse to give it up!

Agreed -- unless it's Nachos, because they're out of salted popcorn! But the big sodas -- definitely!

(Sometimes I regret having had gastric-bypass surgery; pigging out on anything just doesn't exist for me anymore. I miss all-you-can-eat buffets the most; they're just not worth it anymore when 'all you can eat' pretty much amounts to a single plate and maybe half a dessert. *le sigh*)

Ahhh, the big sodas. I don't usually drink soda, so I don't feel guilty about consuming a cup of the stuff the size of my head every once in a while!

I just wish the cost of one big drink that'll last through most of a movie (my local multiplex sells 1-liter cups) didn't equate the price of a whole sixpack or case (9-12 liters)!
